When you are looking to create a spoilboard for a short run application, the use of All*Star’s on-board gasketing is the product that makes the most sense.  Customers apply the adhesive backed product directly to the surface of an MDF spoilboard.  It is positioned to the inside of the tool path that will be used to route the particular part.

By creating a permiter of gasketing just to the inside of the part, when the vacuum is engaged, the air flow down through the MDF creates a suction cup type grip when it compresses the foam.

The thickness of the foam is dependant on the variance of the substrate that you are working with.  Typically, customers working with plastics and acrylics (flat, consistent surfaces) customers will use a 1/32” thick on-board gasket.  When customers work with wood surfaces (a bit of warp or grain), customer have more success with 1/16” thick material.  Only when a substrate has excess warp or surface variance would a customer use a 1/8” thick gasketing product.

HOW ON-BOARD GASKETING WORKS

• Thin sealant is applied by hand directly to the surface of spoilboard just to the inside of the tool path.
• A vacuum source hole is needed to the interior of the gasket wall.
• When the vacuum is engaged the foam will conform to the substrate and lock in the vacuum seal.
